Chapter Seven

He’d expected questions, so Saint wrapped an arm around Ryken and settled back against the pillows. ”What do you want to know?” He’d answer anything, within reason. Ryken couldn’t know the real reason Saint was there, not yet.

“I want to know everything.” Excitement sparkled in Ryken’s eyes. He lifted off Saint’s chest and rolled to the side, facing him. “You’re Para. Tell me about it. What are you? Were you born or created?”

Saint barked a laugh. “Slow down, babe. Take a breath.”

The smile died on Ryken’s face suddenly. He cupped Saint’s cheek. “More importantly, I need to know what you did in the restaurant with Parker. How you did it.” He waved a hand. “Well, go on. Explain.”

“I can mind-walk.” Saint caught Ryken’s hand in his and brought it to his lips, brushing a kiss over the knuckles. “I traveled into his head, planted images and words, and made it real. Made him think what he saw in his mind was really happening, and he reacted accordingly.”

Tiny lines appeared in the middle of Ryken’s forehead. “You made him think you were having sex.”

Saint nodded. “Yes.” He pulled Ryken close and kissed him on the lips. “I’m sorry for the pain my actions caused.”

“Why did you have to go to such lengths?” Ryken struggled in his arms, but Saint held him tight. “Why did you want me to see you do that?”

“I didn’t know you’d follow us to the bathroom.” Saint shrugged. “I thought seeing us head to the bathroom alone would’ve been enough.”

“But why?” Ryken cried. “Did you want me to leave you alone that badly?”

“Yes.” Saint released him and moved away. “I’m Para. Your brother hates us, plus who I am, what I am, can seriously cost you your life.”

Ryken sat cross-legged, his head tilted to the side, eyes narrowed. “How come no one knows you’re Para?”

Conveniently ignoring the whole ‘cost him his life’ thing. Saint shook his head at his stubborn mate. “I was born a half-breed. Means I can pass for both Para and human.”

“But what are you?” Ryken smoothed a hand down Saint’s chest, over the tattooed symbols.

Saint closed his eyes as he basked in the heat of his mate’s touch. Ryken’s nearness sent the tattoos flaming to life, but his touch also cooled them down. The perfect man for him, but how did he tell Ryken the snake tattooed on his arm was real and wanted to claim Ryken’s soul as his?

“There’s not really any one word to describe what I am,” he told Ryken. “It’s more what I can and can’t do.”

“What can you do?”

“Anything. Everything.”

Ryken pressed his lips together. “The tattoos, what do they mean?”

Saint shrugged. “I was born with them.”

Ryken’s blue eyes widened. “What?” Ryken gasped. “You came out of the, uh…womb with them?” His face flushed red when he said womb.

Saint grinned. “Uh-huh.”

Ryken sputtered. “That’s… That’s… Okay, that’s just weird.”

“I’ll tell my mother you said that.”

“Oh, my God! You have a mother?” Ryken clasped a hand over his mouth a second later, wide eyes begging forgiveness.
